Feb, 2016: TARANGINI 7th Anniversary : VT Seva Dallas continues the tradition

VT Seva Dallas organized 7th anniversary of their annual event TARANGINI, an entertainment for charity event (banquet dinner) on Saturday, Feb 13th 2016 at SLPS Community Center from 5 PM to 9 PM. The VT Seva USA General Secretary, Mr. Krishna Kanth offered salutations and accorded welcome to HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji, the keynote speaker for the event to launch the program with Jyoti Prajwalana (Lighting the Lamp). He introduced HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji as the representative of VT Seva founder - HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji and as dedicated hands on volunteer and leader of VT organization in India. Mrs. SriGowri - VT Seva Dallas branch director, Mrs. Sumana - VT Seva USA Joint Treasurer, Mrs. Aparna - JETUSA President, Mrs. Seetha - JETUSA Secretary, Mrs. Lakshmi - JETUSA Joint Secretary also took part in Jyoti Prajwalana symbolizing VT Seva's movement of taking the underprivileged from darkness to light through Service in the form of Education. It was accompanied by a Vedic prayer in the voice of Sriman Venkatesan Iyengar Swami, expressing the wishes of our volunteers to ‘Serve All Beings as Service to God.’ It was then followed by a peace prayer and rendition of American and Indian National Anthems (with live instruments) by PRAJNA students and youth volunteers of VT Seva.

The highlight of this year's TARANGINI event is HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji gracing the occasion and delivering keynote speech to motivate the volunteers and supporters. HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji shared the vision of VT Seva founder HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji with the audience and elucidated about the source of the inspiration - Sri Ramanujacharya, the greatest social reformer born 1000 years ago. HH recollected the volunteer activity He was involved hands on when floods stuck AP in 2009 and how the organization not only provided immediate relief (5000 Flood Relief Kits) but also provided long term relief in the form of free distribution of 20 tons of corn seeds to the farmers. HH Sri Swamiji reminded everyone about His involvement with VT Seva's relief to New Jersey fire victims in year 2012, Chennai flood relief in 2016 by VT Seva Albany with support of Albany Tamil Sangham and Hudhud relief to AP CM fund by VT Seva etc. HH commended the volunteers of VT Seva for raising ~$170,000 to aid the Nepal Earthquake victims recently. HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji shared a very inspirational incident about VT Seva founder HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji's visit to an old age home that signifies the essence of VT Seva. He stated "When HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji was invited by the organizers of an old age home as Chief Guest, He wrote "Let this old age home be closed soon" in the visitor's book. Upon seeing it, the organizers were bewildered. HH Sri Swamiji enlightened them that the parents should be provided care by children and not by an old age home. Such is the noble thought and great vision of Sri Swamiji that society should be self-served where there is no need to provide service to anyone by organizations." HH Sri Ahobila Jeeyar Swamiji mentioned that VT Seva wants to see the world with prosperity, and of course if there is a need, VT Seva will be always the first one to step up and do service. HH Sri Swamiji educated the audience about "Statue of Equality" project in Hyderabad, commemorating the 1000th birthday of Sri Ramanujacharya in 2017 and invited one and all to join the celebration of service. One Act of Kindness can cause a ripple effect! Dallas team did it again with TARANGINI, an entertainment for charity event (banquet dinner) on Saturday, Feb 14th 2015 at SLPS Community Center from 4 PM to 9 PM. The team engaged more than 600 kind hearts to support the education of the underprivileged tribal students. The specific project taken up by Dallas for this year is to support the education of 100 underprivileged tribal students and buying a new pair of shoes and socks for more than 1000 students, studying at schools in Allampalli and Beersaipeta of Adilabad district, Telangana, India. As children are our future and VT Seva believes in empowering them with the values of volunteering and philanthropy, TARANGINI event was formulated in 2009. It provides an opportunity for local youth to volunteer their time and talents as a team, while supporting service projects of VT Seva. It has been successful in providing a foundation for them to grow into leaders through service. Tarangini is growing in strength because of their active involvement and engagement of local community.

The event was emceed by Mr. Tarun Meruva and Ms. Deeksha Machireddy, dynamic young volunteers of VT Seva Dallas. They put sincere efforts and did a wonderful job in enthralling the audience. The event began with Jyoti Prajwalana (Lighting the Lamp) by Mrs. SriGowri - VT Seva Dallas branch director, Mrs. Sumana - VT Seva Dallas branch director (2012-2014), Mrs. Malathi - VT Seva Dallas branch director (2009-2011) and Mrs. Aparna - JETUSA President, symbolizing VT Seva's movement of taking the underprivileged from darkness to light through Service. Oct 5, 2014 : 5K Walk/Run for Cancer Awareness

It was a beautiful, bright Sunday morning over at the Russell Creek Park in Dallas, Texas where VT Seva hosted fourth annual 5K Walk-A-Thon. The theme of the event was to raise Cancer Awareness, support the fighters, admire the survivors and honor the taken! A big pat on the back of every volunteer and supporter for making the walk-a-thon a big success!! We had more than 350 walk registrants who took part in the battle against Cancer, an oncologist educating all the participants on awareness/prevention steps, an organ donation drive, a bone marrow drive and above all, we had a great participation from the YOUTH. Yes! We have exceeded our goal by reaching double the target for this year to sponsor Cancer screenings (200) and procuring a digital colposcope. Volunteers have gathered at the park from 7:00 AM, made all the preparations with a registration booth, erected signs and marked the path for the walk.

The program began at 8:00 AM with a welcome address by Dallas VT Seva Branch Director Ms. Sumana and event lead Ms. SriGowri. They thanked all the assembled participants for showing solidarity to VT Seva's efforts to prevent Cancer. They shared accomplishments of VT Seva Dallas annual events such as TARANGINI to educate and empower blind, walk-a-thons to prevent Cancer, Earth Day activities to promote environmental friendly living and the team's contributions to JIMS Hospital. They then shared the goal for this year's walk-a-thon and mentioned that the proceeds will go to Cancer Screening and Prevention efforts, thus playing a part in saving lives.

Dr. Kiran Kancharla, Oncologist educated the attendees to have regular health checkups, avoid fast food which have carcinogens and maintain an active life style to prevent Cancer. She then answered health related questions from the attendees. Sri Prapanna Vaisaradiji, personality development (PRAJNA) coach shared the importance of positive thinking and stressed on the need for keeping a healthy and stress free mind to prevent diseases such as Cancer. Ms. Tina Rueles, who was a recipient of double lung transplant raised awareness on Organ donation and Mr. Chinni raised awareness about Bone Marrow Drive.

All assembled in front of the pavilion and we kicked off the 5K walkathon after few minutes of warm up exercises by Mr. Sateesh. Both young and seasoned walkers made their mark by walking 5K for a great cause. The walkers were cheered by our volunteers with great energy. As runners crossed the finish line and in some cases sprinted, they enjoyed a healthy breakfast and kid-friendly activities like henna. Some runners even ran backwards to encourage and motivate the walkers who were behind them.

After everyone had finished the walk and settled down at the pavilion, the youth volunteers encouraged them to support this year's goal with fun filled ideas. Many kids, youth and adults opened their hearts and pledged their support. Many youngsters decided to pledge money from their birthday gifts to the cause and started a truly heart-warming display of generosity. Few of them challenged themselves in a fun filled race to pie Mr. Krishna Kanth on face, with bigger pledges for Cancer screenings. With the kind and generous support, we have not only met but exceeded our goal for the day to sponsor 100 cancer screenings to 200 cancer screenings. This shows that as a team when we come together, we can double the difference that we can make in someone’s life. In addition to cancer screenings, we also met our goal to procure a digital colposcope. Our Dallas VT Seva youth volunteers rocked not only at the event but also from the kickoff of this event preparations which started in September first week. They got involved in coming up with the flyer design, T-shirt design, cancer slogans, and have actively focused in spreading the awareness about the event in spite of their busy school schedules. Hats off to them for a job well done|

Feb 22, 2014 : Tarangini 2014 : One kind act can cause a ripple effect

Thanks to so many kind hearts, VT Seva event in Dallas, 5th anniversary of TARANGINI is a significant achievement for all of us. Thank you to all who have been supportive by sending warm wishes, who were physically present, who could not make it to the event but were present in spirit and for the contributions towards the cause. The Dallas community responded generously in support of the wonderful cause and hundreds of youngsters volunteered their time and skills to make it a memorable one. The entire journey and culmination felt like a family event (with all of our national team of leaders and volunteers) with good memories. Our big thank you and congratulations to all of team’s hardworking efforts and invaluable support as we exceeded in achieving the set goal of supporting more than 200 visually challenged students. It will make a positive difference in few lives for sure. We are touched and encouraged by the kind hearts and immense support we received from the attendees and participants.

It has been a great journey working with the committed and dedicated team! It began well with good planning and commitment in October 2013 when the core team of volunteers pledged with more than 50% of the funds that we would raise for the goal in first 2 meetings. As it began on positive note with dedication for the cause, it ended well with the same tone, belief and commitment. The positive feedback shared by the guests about the event on the excellent work done made the team and especially the youngsters (emcees, dance, singing and food volunteers) very happy. We are thankful to our media sponsors Funasia and Yuva radio for supporting us every year.

The inspirational message from the visionary leader, the CEO and founder of VT Seva, HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji as the keynote speaker at the event has motivated an immense number of audience. He explained the meaning of 'Service with no boundaries' and oneness which connects all of us in the world. The speech was an epitome of VT Seva i.e. "Volunteering Together for Service." The power of giving was at its best display when Mr. Jambukesan shared about the the importance of organ donation and how he and his family responded when their young daughter Janani passed away in November 2013. The message when it comes from people who walked the talk makes huge impact. Ms. Terry, one of the guests of honor educated the attendees about how each one of us can give life to others. We believe many people will respond kindly to it.

Tarangini is all about "One kind act can cause a ripple effect! Let's join in making one!!". We believe we all joined together to make one kind act and we are confident that ripple effect will continue with VT Seva events Ra:ga in Bay Area, Bloom in Boston and Vasantham in New Jersey in next month or two. And others such as big event Utsav in Seattle and many more activities in other branches will follow to lead.

Oct 5, 2013: Cancer Awareness Walk for Life

Cancer afflicts all regardless of race, creed, or country. Thus we must be ready to combat it at all costs without any reservations or fears. Once again VT SEVA Dallas Team organized its annual Cancer Awareness walk to raise community awareness for cancer and sponsor screenings as well as cancer research.

It was a cloudy Saturday morning when 250 members arrived at Russell Creek Park. Preparations were made, signs erected, and the path marked out. About a 100 youth members from the community were involved this year and the event kicked off with an interview with TV9. Various youngsters spoke about the goals of the event and demonstrated their support and experience with VTSEVA.

After that speeches were given by Kiran Kancharla, oncologist, and Neeraja Dasari, radiation oncologist, about cancer and methods to screen, prevent, and fight back against this affliction. They encouraged the community to take their health seriously and to never hesitate, when concerned with one’s personal health, in consulting a professional. This is when the winds of change decided to blow in and storm clouds ruptured. The temperature dropped to 50 F and bone chilling wind and rain fell from the sky.

Our hardy walkers did not let this hinder them as they grabbed their anti-cancer posters and took off down the path. Youth ran to the lead enthusiastic in their efforts to reach the finish line while adults and young children walked in the spirit of cancer awareness. As if their determination had been heard the rain quickly died out and the walk was a rousing success.

As runners crossed the finish line and in some cases sprinted, they enjoyed a healthy breakfast and kid-friendly activities like henna. Some runners even ran backwards to encourage and motivate the walkers who were behind them. After everyone had finished and settled down a round of youths decided to pledge money from their birthday gifts to the cause and started a truly heart-warming display of generosity.

This year many walkers signed up for the Bone Marrow Donation and many new faces were seen as the youth reached out in their schools and communities for volunteers and participants. The proceeds will go to Cancer Screening and Prevention efforts in India as well as cancer research efforts in America. We would also like to give a special thanks to our supporters, volunteers, organizers, and media partners: Fun Asia, Yuva Radio, Prashanth (Byte Graph), and “Be the Match”.  For photos from the event, please click here

April 27, 2013: Dallas does it again! TARANGINI for Tribal Empowerment

VT Seva, Dallas team organized its 4th annual fundraising cultural event ‘TARANGINI 2013’, a fun filled evening with dance, music and food on Saturday, April 27th 2013 at Plaza theater, Garland, Texas.

We experienced a great success with wonderful teamwork, youth active participation and of course the support from the Dallas community. Around 450 people attended and enjoyed the show standing for a noble cause at the same time.

The event began with the chanting of Peace Prayer by all Dallas Forth Worth Prajna students followed by the introduction by our Dallas youth coordinator Vishruth Reddy, one of the four emcees (Vathsalya, Eeshu, Chinmay) of the evening. Each emcee explained the significance and activities of the four pillars of VT Seva (Schools for Tribals, Schools for Visually Challenged, Health care and Environmental awareness) throughout the show at the same time entertaining the crowd with their splendid humor which made the audience stick to their chair and listen to the VT Seva activities with enthusiasm.

The pictures and videos presented moved the people and gave more insight about the VT Seva activities and how they are benefitting the underprivileged with their support and contributions. The video snippet of one of our students, Parmeshwar Rao from Nethra Vidyalaya, on ‘Paadutha theeyaga’ program (one of the vocal music competitions on a popular Telugu channel) made some of our audiences mist their eyes. It was a heart touching video for everyone present at the event. The news about ‘Together We Care – Multi Organ Donation Awareness” and the recent contribution of 10 lakh Indian Rupees by VT Seva CEO HH Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji to MOHAN foundation on their 10th anniversary was shared with the audience.

Youth from different local dance schools (Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, Natyanjali Kuchipudi Dance School , Blue Flame productions Performing Arts and Entertainment) showcased their talents showing their support for the cause. Dedicated Prajna teachers encouraged the Prajna students from each center to come forward and perform for the evening and they did a wonderful job. ‘Kashish band’ has been supporting ‘Tarangini’ every year by lending their voices with popular Telugu and Hindi songs which made the youth to dance to their tunes.

All the sponsors and media partners were thanked and presented with the token of appreciation for their support provided before and during the event. The audience were requested to visit our schools for tribals and visually challenged in their next visit to India and the doctors were requested to participate in the health seminars to raise health awareness both locally and in outreach projects.

All the proceeds from this event will go towards empowering the tribal community in Allampalli, Adilabad district for a ‘Water Retention’ project which will benefit them as they live in remote villages and regularly face problems with water crisis and water contamination problems. VT Seva Dallas believes that through education to students and better living facilities to the families, generations can be improved in the tribal communities. VT Seva Dallas team is excited about its next year’s ‘TARANGINI 2014’ which will be its 5th anniversary and look forward for the greater success of the event with all the growing support from one and all.

April 21 2012: Earth Day 2012 - We found Gold

The VT Seva Dallas chapter teamed up with the City of Frisco to do a city wide clean up. Our team of around 60 volunteers enthusiastically cleaned the First street from Main St. to N. County Rd in Frisco.. Vishruth, an active young volunteer coordinated the complete event.

The event began with words of gratitude to mother Earth by all the attendees. VT Seva volunteer Phani explained the greatness of Earth on how it nurtures all the beings based on the source from Indian traditional wisdom. The global initiative call given by VT Seva founder Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji was shared with all the participants regarding ‘Adopt a Street’/’Clean a Lane’ program.

We formed multiple teams and began the cleanup activity picking different areas of the street. As the street was near Frisco Wholesale lumber and a railway track, there was quite a bit of trash to be cleaned. Volunteers enthusiastically picked up lots of Styrofoam, cans, plastic bags & bottles to make the street as clean as possible. Even litter on the street such as dry grass and mud was cleaned up patiently.

While cleaning the street, adult volunteers shared interesting and funny experiences from their childhood in India with the youngsters. Sateesh and Venkat recollected from his childhood about how the people in the villages used to gather near the house of a goldsmith, hoping to find Gold in the water stream drained from the facility that was used to make Gold ornaments. Whether the villagers ever found Gold or not is a different story. But for sure, VT Seva Dallas team of volunteers found Gold as part of this street clean up. The Gold is none other than the trash they collected Listen to the words of Sateesh in detail about why it is called as Gold by viewing the Earth day videos to be updated very soon.

The energetic volunteers did their bit on keeping the Earth clean. They took a collective pledge to adopt at least 2 streets in their local city.
