Esha and Tarun were enjoying a plate of Home made food and Dosa at a picnic table surrounded by a lot of other VT SEVA Virginia Volunteers doing the same at the Bready Park and Herndon Community Center.

"We are going to be here every year from now on. We not going to miss it," one of the youth volunteer, said.

Volunteers gathered for the VT SEVA Virginia Annual Picnic, a free event hosted by VT SEVA Virginia. VT SEVA Virginia adopted the park where we did lot of activities like Weeding landscape beds, Mulching, Flower maintenance, Litter pickup, Pressure washing pavilion/playground area, General landscape maintenance, Painting, landscape maintenance in the golf course parking lot etc.

After a wonderful conclusion of 28 day Yoga challenge program for youth and adults at the park, there was an awesome breakfast planned for all volunteers. YOGA coach, Mr. Kumar garu, was appreciated on his 25th anniversary with a token of gift.

Later youth and adult volunteers committed their time and effort to help clean up litter, debris and report any dangerous or hazardous conditions to the Parks and Recreation Department. Trash bags and litter sticks were provided to assist in our efforts.

Once park cleanup was done, all volunteers were gathered at the shed to celebrate India Independence Day. VT SEVA Virginia later distributed certificates to youth who participated for JAVA Workshops and appreciated JAVA coach with a small gift. Sreedhar NagiReddi and Reena Bommasani appreciated all volunteers and sponsors who were supporting all VT SEVA Virginia events.

"(The food) is really good. It's fun. Everybody has a chance to get out and get together and do community service," one of the adult volunteers said.

“Glad to attend VT SEVA's annual picnic today. I am very much impressed with kids park clean up program,” Subba Rao Kolla added.

Sreedhar NagiReddi said the picnic is a way to help promote to the community the family values atmosphere of the city. "People get to come out of their house and meet their neighbors and fellow volunteers," Sreedhar NagiReddi said. He lauded the food sponsors and volunteers, especially Deccan Spice who provided free food items (Hot yummy onsite DOSAs etc) so the organization can make the picnic happen.

“Thank you to our volunteers,” Reena Bommasani said. “I don’t think we could run the organization without our volunteers so thank you for your service.”

"I think this is fantastic," Anil said of the event.

Thanks to everyone for attending our Annual Picnic and Adopt a Park event, a huge thank you to youth and adult volunteers and to everyone who helped make this event a success.

VT SEVA VIRGINIA - SCIENCE FAIR : August 12th, 2017

Students show their smarts at Science Fair.

There was an impressive array of projects at the first Middle School Science Fair organized by VT SEVA VIRGINA.

There were projects about Water Filters, Insulation, Effect of Microwave Radiation on Plant Height and many others.

Event director Mr. Sreedhar NagiReddi pointed out, the intent of the science fair was to showcase students' problem-solving skills, not necessarily to showcase a practical application.

In addition, according to Varun Challa, Assistant Scientist at PPD - Pharmaceutical Product Development, the event is a way to help middle school students understand that science is a viable career path.

"Students need to know there's potential for everyone to have a career in science," said Delegate John Bell, who was the keynote speaker on Saturday.

A total of 23 projects were on display on Saturday.

"I'm impressed," Vimala Rangwani, Math teacher at Loudoun County for 11 Years, said. "Not only with the projects, but that the students were willing to spend their free time on Saturday for this event. It shows commitment, which is always good."

A total of 4 judges participated in the event.

"I looked to see how well the students understood the design process of their projects, their methodology and, of course, whether they learned something," Hari Sirigibathina said.

Aayush & Ankush and team, for one, admitted that they learned something after they completed this project.

As part of Java Training, high schoolers were doing hands on assignments on Java and getting more involved in these workshops.

There has been tremendous response to the weekly workshop meetings from both teachers, youth and parents so far. Several parents who joined youth to these workshops found it engaging and informative. Youth were equally excited about the hands-on activities.

A comment from one of the youth who participated in the workshops was that “if the workshops are like this, I want to attend them all in future!”

VT Seva Washington DC Branch celebrated Earth Day 2010 on 25th April. Youth Volunteers picked up garbage at Herndon Elementary School (in Herndon, Virginia) premises and cleared all the weeds and leaves. All 25 youth volunteers were given a book on Earth Day theme based on their grade level. All of them read one page each from the most popular book "Every Day is Earth Day" by Jane O'Connor.
The following three themes were highlighted -
1. Don't Waste Water. Get Clean, but stay green.
2. Always use a tote (shopping bag) rather than plastic bag.
3. Turn off lights and computers not in use.
All kids received a reusable metal container/mug/bottle for drinking water/juice every day to save environment from plastic bottles. They promised to bring it every week to VT Seva DC Chapter activities and drink juice instead of using individually packed juice boxes which create more garbage. A tote/bag has been ordered with VT Seva logo to be printed on it, which will arrive in 2 to 3 weeks after which every student will be given a bag, with a promise that they will use it (instead of plastic bags) and bring it to VT Seva DC chapter activities every week.
