VT Seva Atlanta - Meals by Grace 2023 - July

Atlanta

July 2, 2023 at 12:00:00 AM

Atlanta VT Seva youths & adults participated in Meals By Grace (MBG) activity on July 2nd. They sorted, packed, and delivered fruits, breads, veggies, deserts, juices etc to the needy families of North Georgia. During summer vacation, these families have no or very less food to feed their children. The children excitedly wait for their school to open so they can get good breakfast, lunch, and snack at school. Our youths volunteer at MBG very often, it’s a gift of gratitude by Atlanta youths! More than 20 VT Seva Atlanta Youth participated in Meals by Grace event which is held at Midway United Methodist Church, Atlanta. Meals by Grace is an organization that provides nutritious meals to individuals and families facing food scarcity. VT Youth helped with sorting all the food from the truck into different sections like produce, bread, meat and canned foods. Then the Loading team sorted all of these products into different boxes depending on how big the family is and what their specific food requirements are. Then all the volunteers had an opportunity to help load these boxes into the cars of designated drivers so that they can deliver the food to those who need them. Thank you VT Seva for such a wonderful opportunity to youth!

Green Initiative

Bay Area

November 30, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

As a part of Environmental Sustainability effort and Climate Change Action , Volunteers took part in the Green Initiative by taking shorter showers, conserving energy, etc. one volunteer wrote “During the green initiative activity, I take measures to reduce my carbon footprint and save as much of our resources as possible. Some ways I do this is by using natural light instead of turning on the lights in my room when daylight is still there, using the bus to go to and from school everyday rather than using personal transportation, and buying locally sourced food from stores such as Lucky's and Safeway rather than other food. Although these measures taken are small, they eventually add up in the long-term and end up reducing the amount of waste I produce in regards to the resources I have access to. I find these actions really important for our environment and our future so I do them gladly.”

Our City Forest

Bay Area

August 20, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Our City is an urban forestry non profit organization that helps provide low income residents with lower cost trees. Many independent homes in Santa Clara county require owners to have a tree planted in front of their houses, the cost of these trees can become very expensive, which is why Our City Forest brings in volunteers to help in their nursery. Which will then be picked up by homeowners to plant in front of their homes. Our VT Seva volunteers go to the nursery monthly and help with plucking weeds, planting seeds, and mixing soil!

Wake Up and Read 2024

Branch

Cary

March 2, 2024 at 12:00:00 AM

As part of the WAKE Up and Read Volunteering activity, VT Seva Cary volunteers were part of a community initiative in 2024 to improve school readiness, expand learning opportunities, and also engage families in the learning process. It is ultimately a way for volunteers to commit to a charitable cause that helps the underprivileged by building home libraries for them in Wake County. Volunteers were able to take part in one of the biggest book drives on March 2nd. This activity asked volunteers to help sort, count, and bundle books that would then be shared with the community. They were also tasked with receiving books, and sorting/compiling literacy materials. This event allowed our volunteers to become closer within our Wake County community and help support the underprivileged.
