VIGIL FOR UVALDE
USA
June 5, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM
VT Seva and JET USA volunteers came together for a candlelight vigil for Uvalde elementary school shoot out victims. Here is a note shared by psychiatrist Dr. Thangada on the care we should be taking during these difficult times. It is another grieving time for the country. Many questions arise in our minds as we attempt to grapple with our emotions. Violent acts against innocent people and especially where the deaths of the children are involved it can evoke strong emotions among us. It is natural for us to experience multitude of feelings including blame, anger, fear, frustration, sadness, guilt, aggression, mistrust, and paranoia. The challenges of the above emotions may linger leading to compromise in one’s mental health. Under our current nation’s crisis of emotions, after the Tuesday’s school shooting tragedy, it is important to keep your daily routine, maintain adequate sleep wake schedule, minimize the repetition of viewing and re-reading the tragic news and prioritize to engage with others in positive activities. Most importantly take time aside and talk to your children and process their emotions with them regarding the school shooting. And if you are uncertain and uncomfortable to do so, it is recommended that the children see a mental health professional to assist them to deal with the tragedy of school shootings that are occurring. It is unfortunate that our nation is experiencing mistrust and fear when we send our children to school with the perception that they will be safe in their learning environments. We can come together and be strong and work together to advocate for implementation of mental health programs in schools to avoid similar tragedies and to assist with coping strategies for school communities and the parents in the aftermath. Let us do our part to keep our School communities safe by pushing for improved mental health resources for our students, teachers and families.

Atlanta Go Green
Atlanta
October 14, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM
Atlanta VT Seva youths participated in the 2nd Go Green activity. In our previous September activity, they learned how to cut the plastic bags and make long strips like yarn. On Oct 15th activity, they made 60 cloth bags with Go Green, Think Grren & Be Green logos and symbols. It’s a great way to engage young minds in sustainable endeavors. In addition to making bags, they also made strips from plastic bags to convert it into the mats for the homeless people. Atlanta youths will sell amazing eco-friendly bags and donate money for the education of blind / visually challenged kids in India. They are getting ready for Subha, our annual event and created a promo video at the end of this activity. Their energy and synergy is outstanding and worth appreciating.

Go Green Composting Webinar
Atlanta
January 8, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM
‘Go Green Composting’ webinar was organized on Jan 9th to understand the principles of Agroecology and successful composting of food scraps and yard wastes. In the webinar, speaker Mr. Hithesh Gazzala emphasized the impact of Industrial agriculture in destroying the environment by emitting large amounts of green house gases. The result of which, warmer temperatures over time are changing weather patterns and disrupting the usual balance of nature. This poses many risks to human beings and all other forms of life on Earth. By adapting Agroecology concepts like Organic farming, Diversified crop rotations, Biological pest control, Agroforestry; we can build sustainable environmental landscape. Composting is the key to enrich soil naturally without using fertilizers. In the webinar, speakers Mr. Puneet Bhatnagar, Ms. Mehar Nemani and Mr. Navin Kare had demonstrated ways of composting using Geobin and DYI composting bin. The webinar was well received by the audience and we set new goals for our Atlanta’s Go Green Composting project. With the right tools and know-how, Atlanta is on their way for sustainable and ecofriendly start of 2022!

Table Tennis Lessons
Charlotte
March 4, 2023 at 12:00:00 AM
In October 2022, we began offering table tennis lessons for children in a parent's garage. Since then, every Sunday, we've been teaching kids the basics of the game. Our goal was to establish a sustainable program that could raise funds for our educational pillar, which supports the provision of food, shelter, and education to students attending our schools for the visually impaired. By participating in these lessons, not only are the kids gaining important skills, but they are also contributing to a worthy cause. With the funds we raise through this initiative, we can continue to provide quality education, resources, and support to those who need it most. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these young learners and help them reach their full potential. Through this initiative, we hope to foster a love for sports and healthy competition among our students, while also giving them a chance to develop valuable skills that will benefit them both on and off the table. With each lesson, we see their enthusiasm grow and their abilities improve, and we are proud to be able to offer them this opportunity.
