VT Seva Atlanta - Books for Africa Dec 9th
Atlanta
December 9, 2023 at 12:00:00 AM
Atlanta VT Seva youths feel joy in sharing their books for their friends in Africa and we collected more than 1500 books on Dec 9, 2023. It’s a great eco-friendly project to re-use and recycle books to save on paper and also spread literacy in Africa. In 2023, Books For Africa shipped approximately 4,029,000 books, valued at over $32.6 million, to 32 African countries, the most books ever shipped by Books For Africa in a single year. We are very fortunate that VT Seva Atlanta has shipped 5,000 books in 2023 by conducting 3 book drives in a year and were able to do small contribution to spread literacy in Africa! There is a saying by Dr. Seuss, ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go’, and we hope that our books will empower African children with knowledge and create pathways to accomplish their dreams. ‘Books For Africa’ is a simple project but its impact is transformative. It transform lives of African children and VT Seva Atlanta youths are very fortunate to be part of this positive transformation!

VT Seva Cary-Miracle League Event
Cary
May 16, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM
On May 17th, we at VT SEVA Cary Volunteers participated in Miracle League as buddies where we supported special needs kids such as kids with autism to play baseball. We helped the kids to run around the baseball diamond and also helped them catch the ball in the 2 separate games we participated in. Baseball can encourage them to communicate and also helps with their motor skills. While helping the kids, we understood how determined they were and how involved they were to participate and play in the game and not let their team down. This unique experience helped me understand the kids with special needs and how wonderful these kids were. We would definitely want to participate in such opportunities again.

Composting
Bay Area
March 31, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), organic waste makes up more than 28% of landfills. Unfortunately, landfills lack the necessary conditions for ample decomposition. Rather than adding to landfills, composting is a much better solution. By composting we are able to reduce the amount of waste that ends up at landfills, and instead, we let the nutrients return back to Earth so it can be recycled naturally. This event focuses on having volunteers make compost in their own gardens. Volunteers will take pictures each weekend on how the compost is coming along.

Earth Hour 2024
Branch
Atlanta
March 23, 2024 at 12:00:00 AM
Earth Hour is one hour in the year that we all turned off our power to help Earth. Earth Hour believes that each and every one of us has the power to make a positive impact on our planet, but it’s up to us as individuals to decide how we do so. Anyone, anywhere can join the Biggest Hour for Earth by spending 60 minutes doing something - anything - positive for our planet. This year, 21 VT Seva youth volunteers participated in this amazing event. Many people lit candles to light their homes. Some even used the moonlight. But, they all had fun while helping conservative earth’s resources make it a better place
