Presidents volunteer service award
Hi, my name is Oviya Jaisankar, and I am a 7th grader from Michigan. Ever since I was a little kid, I've had a passion for volunteering. For me, volunteering is really fun thing to do, and knowing that you're helping people and having fun at the same time is an amazing experience. I have been volunteering with VT Seva since I was in 4th grade, but I have been doing public service since I was as young as 6 years old. Me and my brother would go around our neighborhood to collect pop bottles to set up a library in a deaf and dumb school in a Southern part of India. I was having fun reaching out to people collecting the bottles and getting money.
The students there were my age and little bit older than me, they were so happy when they received the books and activity charts, they expressed their happiness by hugging us and gave us a handmade flower vase that they made as a thank you gift. After seeing their joyfulness, I wanted to make even more children happy. To this day me and my brother continue support those schools during our every trip to India.
I am a proud member of the VT Seva Detroit Youth Board, I'm so happy that I found VT Seva and that I am able to touch so many lives by either packing food at food banks, raising money for Nethra Vidyalaya and tribal kids, supporting the front liners, thanking the essential workers for their service during COVID-19 pandameic, and so much more.
