Atlanta Go Green Project

LOCATION:

Atlanta

September 14, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

We had an amazing workshop with our VT seva members on 15th September, 2022 in the Roswell library. Our agenda was to create blankets using the plastic bags for the homeless. Our volunteers and parents participated so actively in this workshop and learnt the steps needed to prepare these blankets Volunteers gathered to sort the plastic bags & learned to make plastic yarn. This is a wonderful service project that can benefit the needy by reusing the plastic bags and turn them into mats. We are once again as VT Seva volunteers reiterating the fact that we should Reuse, recycle the plastic bags on our way to be eco friendly. This project will run from 15th Sep till 30th November, 2022. All our VT seva volunteers will continue work offline on the steps that are instructed during this workshop. There will be a future connect to stitch these collected and cleaned plastic bags to turn them into the mats for homeless people of Atlanta. It’s a great eco- friendly and giving endeavor by Atlanta youths and adults. We had more than 40 volunteers participated in the event and truly enjoyed this activity.

Brown Bag Packing

LOCATION:

Bay Area

September 7, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

In the brown bag packing activity, a small group of people come together to make and pack bags filling them with different items such as chips, drinks, fuit, etc. Within these groups, the value of teamwork is built, and it's true importance is shown. After these bags are packed, they go to a homeless shelter to help those in need. This activity really helps in helping our community, as there are many people who cannot afford nutritious food. Packing brown bags for shelters help those that are not as fortunate as us, and makes their futures a little brighter.

Atlanta - Worker's Appreciation 2022

LOCATION:

Atlanta

September 4, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Atlanta VT Seva children and adults participated in the 76th Independence Day of Bharath with zeal and patriotism. Independence Day holds special significance in all our hearts. Not only does August 15th mark the day India gained independence from 200-year-old colonial rule, but Independence Day also serves as a reminder of all the good virtues, pride, rich cultural heritage, unity among diversity, and fertility of the land which we must all feel proud to call our homeland India. It's also the day when we commemorate and pay homage to the courageous sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. Atlanta VT Seva youths and adults infused with patriotic feeling made 100 tri-color bracelets, ribbons, flags, and wristbands. They also nurtured 150 plus herbs - Tulsi, Mint, and Curry leaf as a symbolic representation of 3 colors of the Bharath flag. In addition, 50 plus youths and adults participated in ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ by joining in the Flag March. Sonali Bendre, film actress was leading the flag and our Atlanta VT Seva team was following her in the flag march. It was an amazing feeling of patriotism. Our youths raised $1400 by selling tricolors ribbons, bracelets, and flags. They also sold 3 herbs Tulsi, Curry leaf, and Mint. They also did tricolor face painting which was a huge hit at the event. All proceeds will go for the education of the visually challenged kids of Nethra Vidyalaya. It’s very gratifying and fulfilling experience for all of us. Jai Hind!

Green Initiative

LOCATION:

Bay Area

August 31, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

As a part of Environmental Sustainability effort and Climate Change Action , Volunteers took apart if the Green Initiative by taking shorter showers, conserving energy, etc. one volunteer wrote “During the green initiative activity, I take measures to reduce my carbon footprint and save as much of our resources as possible. Some ways I do this is by using natural light instead of turning on the lights in my room when daylight is still there, using the bus to go to and from school everyday rather than using personal transportation, and buying locally sourced food from stores such as Lucky's and Safeway rather than other food. Although these measures taken are small, they eventually add up in the long-term and end up reducing the amount of waste I produce in regards to the resources I have access to. I find these actions really important for our environment and our future so I do them gladly.”
