During the brief meeting after our successful RAAS 2018 event, we were brainstorming about adding newer events to attract more participation and awareness about VT Seva and we hit upon this idea of conducting a Kid’s Soccer Tournament to benefit the Netra Vidyalaya children. It is then when we started this 7-month long journey of VT Seva – ‘Soccer For A Cause’ tournament.
It was quite a challenge initially to assess the interest, availability of fields, identifying the age groups, many other logistics since it was a first time for all of us to conduct a tournament of this size. Hence,
we decided to send out a Survey form to seek everybody’s opinion and interest.
Due to several reasons such as summer vacation time for the kids, field and volunteers’ availability, July 13th 2019 was the chosen to be the day of the Tournament based on the Survey feedback.
We had overwhelming responses from kids, parents and volunteers in making the event a successful one without any hiccups.
We were thrilled to see players signing up till the last minute at the venue.
Total about 45 kids registered.
We played 3 round robin games for 6-9yr olds and then one decider, 2 games for 10-12 yr olds and 1 big game for High Schoolers vs Adults...you could obviously guess the result of that game All in all, it was a fun filled day of Soccer with some mouthwatering snacks - Pizzas, Samosas, Ice Cream, Lemonade, Mango Lassi, Gatorade & plenty of water to keep the players & parents going. All proceeds go to Netra Vidyalaya from VT Seva Detroit RAAS event.
We definitely look forward to making it a bigger event in the following
years!
