Volunteer Experience - Sriram Vennamaneni

This was truly a great experience for me, to meet some great people who make sure we are safe and happy, and I would really love to do it again.

Hi! My name is Sriram, and I am a VT Seva Dallas Youth Volunteer. I have done many things over the years as a VT Seva Volunteer, but never would I have thought that I would meet the police. It actually happened today on March 5th, 2021. Me and my family along with some other volunteers and friends drove to Frisco. Why did we do that you may ask? We wanted to appreciate the police officers for keeping all of us safe and doing their duty. We went inside and looked around at the police station. It was huge! We then went into a room and officers joined us there. We talked to them, thanked them, and even asked questions. I remember that I asked one of the officers “What was your most interesting case recently?” They mentioned about recent fire accident incident in Frisco and the role they played in ensuring the safety of the residents. I found it educational and felt grateful to them. Afterwards we took some pictures, thanked them once again, and drove home. This was truly a great experience for me, to meet some great people who make sure we are safe and happy, and I would really love to do it again.

On March 22nd, 2021, I and 8 more VT Seva youth volunteers went to tour the Frisco Police Center. It was not what I thought it would be at ALL. We first were greeted by a Police officer who was our tour guide for the orientation. He was extremely welcoming and introduced us to himself and gave us a brief overview. He proceeded to show us around the center, and we asked many questions and he responded to all of them. He talked about his equipment, he showed us his squad car and all its cool gadgets and showed us around the building. Sadly, we didn't get to see the jail due to Covid safety measures, but we had a ton of fun and it was an amazing learning experience about how police keep us safe. This happens once a month so you all can do it too!
