VTSeva Austin Hiking for a cause

Austin

June 4, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Education for the blind and underprivileged is one of the major service pillars of VT Seva. Through the Hikes for a Cause fundraiser, we are fundraising for the Nethra Vidyalaya and are improving our own health at the same time. These hikes are every Sunday, every week of the summer and are on different trails each week and are for only one dollar. Our first hike was held on June 5th 2022, where we explored the Great hills park trail and saw many sights, and got back to nature during our Sunday morning.

A total of 11 youth volunteers and 1 adult volunteer participated, collectively packing approximately 1900 pounds of potatoes! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined this session and played a part in making a positive impact on someone's life.

Green Initiative

Bay Area

March 31, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

As a part of Environmental Sustainability effort and Climate Change Action , Volunteers took apart if the Green Initiative by taking shorter showers, conserving energy, etc. one volunteer wrote “During the green initiative activity, I take measures to reduce my carbon footprint and save as much of our resources as possible. Some ways I do this is by using natural light instead of turning on the lights in my room when daylight is still there, using the bus to go to and from school everyday rather than using personal transportation, and buying locally sourced food from stores such as Lucky's and Safeway rather than other food. Although these measures taken are small, they eventually add up in the long-term and end up reducing the amount of waste I produce in regards to the resources I have access to. I find these actions really important for our environment and our future so I do them gladly.”

Atlanta Plastic Reduction Drive & Best From Waste

Atlanta

April 21, 2023 at 12:00:00 AM

We're proud to announce that Atlanta VT Seva celebrated World Earth Day by making a difference in the lives of those in need. We organized a project to create plastic sleeping mats for homeless people using recycled plastic bags. Our event at the East Roswell Library saw a fantastic turnout of 40 VT Seva youth and adults from Atlanta. Our volunteers collected plastic bags from their homes and neighbors to create comfortable sleeping mats for those who are experiencing homelessness. In addition to making a difference in the community, our participants shared their views on how to reduce plastic pollution and make the best out of waste. It's inspiring to see so many young people take action and work towards a cleaner, healthier planet. We're proud of the hard work and dedication of our Atlanta VT Seva team, and we look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in our community.

International Yoga Day

KATY

June 27, 2020 at 12:00:00 AM

Patanjali Yog Sutra defines Yog as "योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः" succession or silencing of the thought waves in the mind. In that state “तदा द्रष्टुः स्वरूपे अवस्थानम्” the practitioner is in it’s true state of being. Otherwise he identifies himself with the waves. He also states that “अभ्यासवैराग्याभ्यां तन्निरोधः” which means the waves can be controlled by Practice and Detachment. He proclaims “स तु दीर्घकाल नैरन्तर्य सत्काराअदराअसेवितो दृढभूमिः” that after a long and steady practice with great love the goal is achieved.

Womens Sports Day in Sugarland - International Womens Day

Houston

March 6, 2021 at 12:00:00 AM

Women are strong pillars for their families and their good health brings stability to the family and community at large. On March 7, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, members of the local Houston community safely conducted a Women’s throwball match for a good cause. Score was kept by two youth, Veeraj and Vishu. Vishu, a bright young man who, despite a debilitating diagnosis of Frederich’s ataxia, was there to participate and cheer the teams on. The funds raised, totaling approximately $1000, will be donated to VT Seva and specifically towards VT Seva cancer screening kits for women. Thanking this dynamic group for their generous contribution!
