Adults and children alike bonded over the experience as they worked together to ensure the road was clean. Through their collective efforts, they filled 9 garbage bags with trash. A special thanks to our adult volunteers who helped put this event together. Without your help, it surely wouldn't have been possible. VT Seva Atlanta CPR Event

Atlanta

April 29, 2023 at 12:00:00 AM

Atlanta VT Seva team has organized a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) session on April 30th, 2023 at the Cumming Library in Forsyth County. The main objectives behind this CPR session are to share CPR insights, provide hands-on training, and assist youths and adults in practicing CPR. This CPR session started with an Atlanta VT SEVA 2021-2022 Initiatives & Activities video exhibiting various service projects in 2022 and 2023 by the Atlanta VT Seva team. This CPR session was facilitated by Dr. Jawahar Gazzala, Atlanta Heart Specialist, Cardiologist by profession, and Sumir Nemani, GA Tech CPR-certified student. Dr. Jawahar first shared the American Heart Association (AHA) CPR guidelines, dos and don’ts of CPR, 3 Cs of CPR (check patient, call 911, and start chest compressions), what to do when you see people having cardiac assets in public places, and much more. Later Dr. Jawahar and Sumir gave CPR live demonstrations of 1 Person CPR on a practice dummy and all children and adults practiced with them using their pillows assuming their pillows to be human bodies. They also went over how to do 2 personal CPR and helped our youth and adults practice it. They urged everyone to register in CPR classes and become CPR Certified, as it's an important life skill to have which can save somebody’s life in case of emergency. Overall, it was a fantastic CPR session in which we had over 90 participants in-person. In the end, each participant who attended was given a certificate of participation and a cheat sheet of what to do regarding CPR. It was great to see our VT Seva community learn the valuable skill to save someone’s life.

In the words of John F. Kennedy, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest form of appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." Atlanta children and adults strived to put gratitude in action by participating in ‘Random Act of Kindness’ project. The purpose of this project is to promote Kindness until it’s a habit for all. VTS Boston Volunteers at Greater Boston Food Bank

Boston

August 19, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Last month, a group of 15 volunteers from VT Seva Boston served at the Greater Boston Food Bank. Given this was our first time at the food bank, we were given a tour of the facility by the manager. Everyone was amazed by the vast storage room with endless boxes of food piled high. Everything was organized and packaged very neatly making it clear they have an impressive system for keeping track of the supplies. Afterwards, we were led down to the packaging room where diligent volunteers were already at work. We were impressed by the dedication of the volunteers and the managers of the food bank. For our task that day everyone worked together in an assembly line to prepare family meal boxes for those in need of assistance. Each volunteer was in charge of one or two food items to the box and passed it along the conveyor belt to the next person. From adding food items to the boxes, unpacking large quantities of food, and lifting heavy boxes, everyone had a job to do. Two volunteers at the end of the line sealed the boxes and stacked them four boxes high so they could be sent to other locations to be distributed. The family meal boxes included milk, juice, rice, pasta, beans, peanut butter, granola bars, canned fruit and veggies, and more. We put together 13,980 meals for families with a total weight of 15,600 pounds. We all enjoyed volunteering at the Greater Boston Food Bank and can’t wait to come back soon!

Starting the new year off strong with our first external volunteering event, we headed back to the Durham Rescue Mission Men’s Center to help make a difference in our community. Just like the many previous trips we have made to the Durham Rescue Mission’s Men’s Center, this one went extraordinarily. On January 27, 2024, our volunteers worked hard, serving lunches for the homeless throughout Durham and Wake County. Their hard-working efforts led to many individuals in need being fed and provided for. Volunteers also took part in crucial activities that helped the Center function smoothly. They were responsible for organizing, cleaning up, washing, drying, etc.
