Sabercat Habitat Restoration

Bay Area

April 9, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Sabercat is an urban habitat park, composed of a creek, trail and habitat restoration areas set in south east Fremont. There have been fossil findings of sabercat, mastodon and western camel in this area. City of Fremontโ€™s community services department has been restoring the sabercat historic habitat along with a crew of volunteers. The volunteers help restore the area's native plant diversity by removing invasive species, so that there are enough nutrients for native plants. Restoring native plants and vegetation also helps the native wildlife and insects thrive as they depend on these plants for food and shelter. The volunteers also help out by cleaning the existing creek of trash and debris that are harmful to the creek habitat. By cleaning the creek the volunteers also help improve the quality of water flowing to the bay.

Atlanta 76th Independence Day Celebration

Atlanta

August 12, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

Atlanta VT Seva children and adults participated in the 76th Independence Day of Bharath with zeal and patriotism. Independence Day holds special significance in all our hearts. Not only does August 15th mark the day India gained independence from 200-year-old colonial rule, but Independence Day also serves as a reminder of all the good virtues, pride, rich cultural heritage, unity among diversity, and fertility of the land which we must all feel proud to call our homeland India. It's also the day when we commemorate and pay homage to the courageous sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. Atlanta VT Seva youths and adults infused with patriotic feeling made 100 tri-color bracelets, ribbons, flags, and wristbands. They also nurtured 150 plus herbs - Tulsi, Mint, and Curry leaf as a symbolic representation of 3 colors of the Bharath flag. In addition, 50 plus youths and adults participated in โ€˜Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsavโ€™ by joining in the Flag March. Sonali Bendre, film actress was leading the flag and our Atlanta VT Seva team was following her in the flag march. It was an amazing feeling of patriotism. Our youths raised $1400 by selling tricolors ribbons, bracelets, and flags. They also sold 3 herbs Tulsi, Curry leaf, and Mint. They also did tricolor face painting which was a huge hit at the event. All proceeds will go for the education of the visually challenged kids of Nethra Vidyalaya. Itโ€™s very gratifying and fulfilling experience for all of us. Jai Hind!
