Town of Morrisville Drain Marking Event

Branch

Cary

March 16, 2024 at 12:00:00 AM

Supporting the Town of Morrisville, our volunteers took part in the drain marking event. This event tasked the volunteers with monitoring oncoming traffic, while installing drain markers and marking those areas on a map of Morrisville that was given. This was done in an effort to keep the stormwater of Morrisville clean and assist the town with other aspects of drainage, water runoff, etc. We have done this event a couple years in the past, and this year, thanks to the wonderful jobs by our volunteers, we were asked to come back and help once again. This event was done on two other shifts at different locations that were held on two other days. (3/17/2024 and 3/24/2024).

Green Initiative

Bay Area

June 30, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

As a part of Environmental Sustainability effort and Climate Change Action , Volunteers took apart if the Green Initiative by taking shorter showers, conserving energy, etc. one volunteer wrote “During the green initiative activity, I take measures to reduce my carbon footprint and save as much of our resources as possible. Some ways I do this is by using natural light instead of turning on the lights in my room when daylight is still there, using the bus to go to and from school everyday rather than using personal transportation, and buying locally sourced food from stores such as Lucky's and Safeway rather than other food. Although these measures taken are small, they eventually add up in the long-term and end up reducing the amount of waste I produce in regards to the resources I have access to. I find these actions really important for our environment and our future so I do them gladly.”

Bay Area

April 23, 2022 at 12:00:00 AM

During the month of April, VT - Seva Bay Area hosted its first ever beach cleanup! Youth volunteers attended the activity at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz California. They started by scavenging the beach for typical trash such as cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic bottles, bottle caps, and other plastic items. Volunteers cleaned up the beach to improve the coastal and ocean ecosystem to ensure that none of the trash kills marine life or is toxic enough to disrupt the aquatic life cycle! After the cleanup, volunteers enjoyed a quick picnic by the beach to get to know each other and celebrate the day's accomplishment!

Atlanta

June 12, 2021 at 12:00:00 AM

On June 13th, a Presidential Award Ceremony was organized to present 13 awards to young Atlanta VT Seva volunteers for their hard work, compassion, and service to their community. More than 70 people attended the presidential award ceremony, which was the product of excellent teamwork and selfless service from all the children, youth, and adults of VT Seva Atlanta. The plant sale was executed after the ceremony, with Chief guests City councilman Brian Wearer and City Councilwoman Erin Elwood of Johns creek, GA attending. They highly appreciated the initiatives taken by VT Seva in regards to the environmental sustainability and service attitude of children in sowing and taking care of so many plants at such an early age. Later, children shared their experiences in working for VT Seva and the knowledge and compassion it has provided them with. The event was a great success and exhibited the VT Seva Atlanta community’s spirit ingrained in all the volunteers. “ I learned to become responsible for the things I am committing myself to by participating in this program.” - Dharanija Peram
