Jaisrimannarayana! Food is an important part of any celebration all over the world, regardless of culture or religion. It can unite and strengthen community bonds, and helps to maintain a common identity amongst a group of people. Under the lovely weather, a large number of local community members attended our 4-hour Dosa Day Event in a successful fundraiser for temple maintanence at the Jeeyar Ashramam. It was the first-time for many visitors to the temple and our Priest Pawanswamy welcomed them and introduced temple services. Prajna and VTSEVA information tables were well received by parents who showed very much interest in joining their kids. Visitors enjoyed the menu and had a great time. Their favorite was combo mini meal which had Upma, Pongal, Idli, and Dosa served with Sambar and Chutneys prepared at Asramam by Aparnaji and team. Kids enjoyed Mango Lassi and had great time playing around the trees and in the sand. All the funds raised are going towards temple maintenance. The event was successful due to commited volunteers. VT Seva Detroit volunteers had the privilege of participating in one such activity organized by the City of Farmington Hills as part of their 10th Annual Litter Cleanup activity. Around 14 volunteers, consisting of five adults and nine high schoolers, walked over 2 miles & removed debris from along 9 mile Haggerty Rd till Drake Road. Essential Workers Appreciation Project
Detroit
May 11, 2020 at 12:00:00 AM
VT Seva Detroit Youth Board members gave gifts and thank you notes to mail carriers, sanitation workers, grocery store employees, and hospital workers to show their appreciation of their continued service during this pandemic. While many of us are being told to stay at home, these workers have a responsibility during the outbreak to continue operations, potentially putting their lives in danger through contracting COVID-19. Some of these people work behind the scenes without the general public realizing how essential they are to keeping society functioning. This was an eye-opening experience for all the kids. It shows how much happiness a simple acknowledgment gives someone. Over 25 kids participated in the project and touched the lives of over 50 families.
