Families and Friends at Liberty Park present a Food Stall for VT Seva Causes

LOCATION:

Detroit

September 10, 2021 at 12:00:00 AM

In this first of its kind event, friends and supporters of VT Seva organized a Food Stall at Liberty Park Subdivision on September 11th 2021 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in order to raise money for the visually challenged and tribal area school children. There was overwhelming support from enthusiastic volunteers who came forward to support in the areas of Planning, Set-up of Stalls, Cooking Equipment, Cooking, Serving & Distribution, Cash Register, Crowd Management, Safety & Security, Photography, Parking, Wrap up and cleanup. This event was very well received by the Liberty Park community and everyone pitched in with their contributions either through volunteering or through their contributions to buy food from the stalls. The response to the event really surprised everyone since it was a festive atmosphere throughout the subdivision. An estimated 300 people attended the outdoor event. This was a great opportunity to come outdoors, have a safe & delicious food made on the spot and contribute towards a great cause. We were able to raise enough money to support 10 children in total to benefit Nethra Vidhyalaya & Tribal School children with the support of great friends, family & LP community. Krishna ji, HOA lead and our hosts - Divya ji & Venkat ji, Liberty Park Residents, were extremely gracious to provide their Driveway to set up the Donation Stations, Tents and Food Stations. Their neighbors were also so kind to lend their driveways as well for any spillover stations, storage, etc. The entire Liberty Park community extended their helping hand so amazingly and embraced the event to make it their own. In the run-up to the event, Liberty Park Subdivision HOA and VT Seva Team met several times to discuss the logistics, supplies, location, volunteers, Safety precautions and menu items for the Food Stall. These pre-planning meetings were very important to ensure all the above aspects and much more are taken care within the community and the event location. There was a variety of food options – Plain Dosa, Podi Dosa, Onion Dosa, Pesaratu & Upma Dosa, Ghee Dosa, Cheese Dosa, Pongal, Kesari, Coffee, Masala Chai & Samosa. The Dosas were served with hot Sambar and Chutney as well. All the food items were sold out by 4:30 PM. At the conclusion of the event, every individual specially encouraged us to have this kind of an event every year and that they were eagerly waiting for the next one to happen soon!

Appreciating the Selfless Workers To recognize some of the selfless heroes who have been working long days and nights to make life for everyone easier, are the amazing workers at United States Postal Service and the Waste Management of Seattle. In order to honor and appreciate all that they have been doing before and during the pandemic, VT Seva Seattle volunteers created handmade cards and gave gifts to the USPS and WM workers in their neighborhoods. The smiles on each person who received the personal gifts were heartwarming and full of happiness! Some of our volunteers learned more about the workers and their personal lives while some, like Pranav, learned how difficult and stressful their job has been during the pandemic. Some workers also shared how many of them have had to work overtime during the pandemic due to extra covid precautions. We are so thankful to all the workers at USPS and Seattle WM and are so glad that we got the opportunity to appreciate and recognize some of the hardworking people!
