Vt Seva Houston - Hurricane Ida Relief Efforts

LOCATION:

Hurricane Ida was a deadly and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane that became the second-most damaging and intense hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana on record, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005. VT SEVA Houston conducted a donation drive in the local community and donated all the collections to Boy Scouts’ Hurricane Relief Program on September 6, 2021.

VT Seva Subha Kickoff 2021 (Face to Face Meetup)

VT Seva Atlanta Subha Kickoff meetup was organized on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 @ 4:00PM. In this event, Atlanta youth was recognized for their outstanding contributions for their various projects - Mask making, April Cool, Summer Camp. Also, Subha kickoff was launched to raise funds for 50 visually challenged kids of India. In addition, VT Seva Lambert School Club was launched which embodies youth empowerment in Atlanta.

Meals by Grace Sep 3rd, 2021

VT Seva Atlanta participated in ‘Meals by Grace’ volunteer work on Sep 3rd, 2021 in a big way. More than 25 Atlanta VT youth participated in packing various vegetables, fruits, and breads for the needy families of North Georgia. Our team delivered the packed food to 5 needy families of Georgia. Its very gratifying and rewarding experience for all of our adult and youth volunteers. VT Seva Atlanta Lambert Youth Club

The VT Seva Atlanta Lambert Youth Club was started on August 31, 2021. Its purpose is to empower youth with leadership and communication skills through philanthropy projects. Club embraces cultural diversity and welcome all youth to participate in various humanitarian projects. Youth members will learn how to plan, develop, and implement various projects that benefit our Atlanta community as a whole. Club meetings will be every month and minutes will be taken of the meeting proceedings. The executive members of the club are: President: Srimayi Kukkadapu, Vice-President: Shivangi Panda, Secretary: Siri Arkatala, Director: Samved Gazzala, Tech Lead: Amaan Bhasin, Communication Lead: Siddharth Bharatwaj. In addition to the executive members, we have 30 more club members. The projects undertaken by club are Atlanta Heart Walk, Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Atlanta, Toys for Tots, etc. In addition, club will also initiate Eco-friendly projects like Adopt a road, Plant more trees, Recycling, etc. Besides, club members will participate in Atlanta Food Bank and Meals by Grace projects to serve the underserved. Furthermore, they will assist in organizing blood donation camps, help the local libraries, and serve the Senior citizens through various projects. Club meetings will be every month and minutes will be taken of the meeting proceedings.

Human Services - Sandwich Making (Family Housing)

For VT - Seva Bay Area’s second Sandwich making activity of August youth volunteers packed PBJ and Veggie sandwiches for a family housing center in San Jose! The families received a nutritious meal thanks to our youth volunteers!

Environmental Services-Street Cleanup Activity

In the month of August, VT Seva Bay Area’s Environmental Services had its first group street cleanup! A maximum of 6 youth volunteers had the opportunity to safely meet at a park and clean it up. The volunteers kept our parks and playgrounds clean for kids to play!

Environmental Services-Composting Activity

VT Seva Bay Area had its monthly compost gardening activity during the month of August. Our volunteers composted things like apple cores, Lettuce, Cardboard, paper bags and much more! Towards the end of the month volunteers sent pictures of how their compost had been going, through this, volunteers also learned the environmental benefit and impact of composting!

The North Jersey Vtseva Team had a walkathon to support visually challenged kids in India. It was held on August 29 and the event was led by Mihir one of the members of the Youth Board. The event overall was a huge success and we raised around $2000 for our cause!

VTS Detroit Youth Board 2nd Senior Center Volunteering Event

Manoogian Manor residents love our Youth Board members, they've been invited 2nd time to attend their Bonfire. Volunteers spent their time there setting up seats on the patio, handing out lemonade to the residents, socializing with the residents, pushing the wheelchairs, and cleaning up the area. Our YB members and Manoogian Manor residents both connected even more today, all of the residents were happy to see us and enjoy sharing stories of their lifetime and inquired about daily life. One of the resident Dona, entertained us by singing a song, they were so thrilled and happy to share their experiences and hobbies. Our YB embers became experts in having conversation with seniors :) Both our YB members and Manoogian Manor residents are eagerly waiting for next Bonfire. Our youth volunteers and adult volunteers were on fire throughout their shift slots reaching out to all customers, distributed the flyers, spoke about VT Seva Detroit and explained the reason behind this food drive . They were spot on with their impeccable customer friendly skills and approach. We did see few people not so responsive towards their efforts but they never gave up, continued to do volunteering with same energy and smile. Leduc Director of Volunteer Services & Partner Support Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan We delivered 7 food boxes to Gleaners Food bank and 5 Food boxes to Capuchin Soup Kitchen at Detroit. We also donated all the moneytary donations $682 to Gleaners Food bank. We are looking forward to do such food drives next year as well with the help of Kroger stores.

VTS Detroit 2021 Food Drive for Gleaners Food Bank and Capuchin Soup Kitchen

VTS DETROIT 2021 FOOD DRIVE FOR GLEANERS FOOD BANK AND CAPUCHIN SOUP KITCHEN WITH THE HELP OF KROGER NOVI STORES SOLICITATION FINISHED OFF VERY SUCCESSFULLY VT Seva Detroit has always been proud to partner with Gleaners and Capuchin Soup Kitchen in any community service initiatives. Gleaner Food Bank is committed to end Hunger in Southeast Michigan along with their partner agencies as a part of Feeding America program. “Child” & “Hunger” are the two words that should never go together. To solve this complex problem Gleaners always collaborates with other agencies to find solutions for a hunger-free community. Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s mission is to tend to people's basic needs, especially the need for food and strives to stimulate minds and nourish spirits, and works to understand & address root causes of social injustice in our community. VT Seva Detroit has partnered with these two amazing organizations in many past Food Drives and Community Initiatives and have contributed immensely towards positively impacting the local community. As a part of this Food Drive, we collected 12 Boxes of Food donations and over $682.00 in CASH for the Food Banks from generous customers who shopped today (08/22/2021) at Kroger Novi store from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Amazing help from all our wonderful volunteers who were there on all shifts and tirelessly worked for this great success. Our youth volunteers and adult volunteers had all guns blazing throughout their shift slots reaching out to all the customers, distributing flyers, speaking about VT Seva Detroit and explaining the reason behind the food drive. They were spot on with their impeccable customer friendly skills and approach. We did see few people who were un-responsive towards their efforts but our Volunteers never gave up, continued to do their duties with the same energy and smile. We sincerely thank each one of these wonderful Youth and Adult volunteers who participated in the Food Drive. After the collection, the Gleaners Food Bank associate drove all the way to our coordinator’s residence and picked up the food donation boxes & he was so appreciative and whole heartedly thanked for our efforts. We also delivered the remaining food donations boxes to Capuchin Kitchen Services, Detroit. Pastor Dijan was very kind to appreciate our efforts. We take this opportunity to also sincerely thank Kroger Corporate Executive, Stacy for approving VT Seva Detroit solicitation application and granting Novi Store to do food drive for Metro Detroit foodbanks to alleviate hunger in many families across Michigan. We plan on continuing to do the food drive every year with the help of Kroger. We received the below appreciation emails from Gleaners Food Bank! Thanks so much to you and all of VT Seva Detroit! VT Seva Houston had its Annual Earth Day Science Fair Award and President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) Presentation on August 21, 2021. To all the Earth Day Science Fair winners, many congratulations on a great show of talent and awareness about Mother Earth. To the PVSA Awardees, your spirit of selflessness in volunteerism and commitment to the community are truly appreciated!

North Jersey Food Drive

VT Seva North Jersey held a Food Drive on August 21st conducted completely by our youth volunteers and led by Srija Boddu. Through this event we got an overwhelming amount of donations from many of our VT Seva members and also many strangers who decided to help out!! All of the donations and food received was given to the Parsippany Community Center, a local Food Pantry. The event was a great success with more than 200 donations!
