VT Seva Detroit - Eco-Conscious Project

Since 1970, 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝑫𝒂𝒚 has been celebrated to educate about and activate environmental awareness. The 𝑽𝑻 𝑺𝒆𝒗𝒂 𝑫𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒊𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑩𝒐𝒂𝒓𝒅 was joining this movement by learning about and creating awareness for the need to take care of our earth through our 𝑬𝒄𝒐-𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕. 23 Youth Board Members came together and exhibit their creativity and talent in creating media content towards environmental awareness This project was initiated by the youth board members Harish & Oviya. They've created videos, infographics, cartoons, comics... to persuade the public to be environmentally aware. Their creations has been posted in VT-Seva Detroit Facebook each day for the whole month of April, 2021. 3 Projects conducted by Youth Board on the 1st quarter of 2021 was also reflected the need of 3R's Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. She put together a video with the tips to follow 3R's which was played in her school TV's on the hallways for the whole day on Earth Day. Overall the Youth Board members learned a lot through this project and start following those tips in their everyday and promoted it to the rest of the world too. Letters to Seniors

VT Seva Bay Area had its monthly Letters to Seniors activity. Volunteers each wrote friendly, engaging, and positive letters to keep a senior engaged! Another great achievement this month, a grand total of 100 letters were mailed this month!

Nutrition Health Webinar

For VT Seva Bay Area’s health services event, we had an interactive session with youth volunteers geared towards healthy eating habits. The guest speakers for this event were Dr. Srinivasa and Dr. Gupta, who talked about various topics such as obesity, dieting, losing weight, gaining weight, along with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Both doctors provided our youth volunteers with information on how eating and our diets heavily impact our lifestyle!

Earth Day Webinar

Environmental Services from VT Seva Bay Area, had its first informative webinar, the webinar was led by a guest speaker from Our City Forest. Our City Forest is a non profit urban forestry that works towards providing affordable trees for low income residents. In the webinar, volunteers learned about Our City Forest’s cause and how planting trees in general affect our planet. After the presentation, our youth volunteers played a fun game of trivia and ended the webinar with information on climate change.

Sandwich Making

For April’s Sandwich Making activity VT Seva Bay Area had youth volunteers accumulating a total of hours. The sandwiches made were later delivered to the homeless shelter and were served for lunch! You can also check out our instagram - @vtsbayarea for more pictures!

VT Seva Detroit NEW Toys / Books / GAMES Drive for Children's Hospital Michigan

VT Seva Detroit Volunteers are glad to contribute a little towards this amazing cause for Children's Hospital Michigan Toys donations drive bringing smiles to the Children’s faces who are staying inside the hospital due to chronic illnesses. These are the numbers on donations and numbers of volunteers who participated. Toys Donated : 165 Books Donated: 240 Gift Cards: 2 Adults Volunteers: 36 Youth Volunteers : 42 (33 from Youthboard TEAM) These toys , books and games would be handed over to all children in the hospital based on their age and category. We appreciate all those wonderful VT Seva Detroit volunteers whoever came forward to this cause and generously donated. 🙏 We hope to make similar donation and much more in the following years to come and Thank all those wonderful doctors, nurses and staff in Children's Hospital Michigan for all their tireless services they do to keep our Children safe and healthy! VTSeva Seattle Earth Day Event

Wendell Berry, a novelist, says “the earth is what we all have in common” and to celebrate this beautiful earth we all share, VTSeva Seattle volunteers volunteered at Beaver Lake Park this Saturday for Earth Day! Together we braved the pouring rain and planted MORE than 80 plants! We together have made a small impact towards the rising problem of climate change. VTSeva’s environmental awareness pillar serves to help educate others on how to preserve this beautiful planet of ours and help find opportunities for others to help heal our planet.

VT Seva Houston Youth Volunteer Mentorship Program - Career Exploration Series #4 - High School to Medical School and Beyond!

Our City Forest

LOCATION:

Our City is an urban forestry non profit organization that helps provide low income residents with lower cost trees. Many independent homes in Santa Clara county require owners to have a tree planted in front of their houses, the cost of these trees can become very expensive, which is why Our City Forest brings in volunteers to help in their nursery. Which will then be picked up by homeowners to plant in front of their homes. Our VT Seva volunteers go to the nursery monthly and help with plucking weeds, planting seeds, and mixing soil!

Environmental-Services - Street Cleanup

VT Seva Cary April Monthly meeting

VT Seva Cary conducted their April Monthly Meeting on April 17th, 2021. At the beginning of the meeting, the new 2021 youth board was introduced. They are: Thanuj Desu - President Rohitha Sanka - Vice President Mahathi Mallela - Secretary Nithya Janapati - Associate Secretary Sribhaavita Nekkalapudi - Communications Lead Manasvini Gudibandi - Associate Communication Lead Then, announcing about the most important volunteering opportunity of the month, Sribhaavita Nekkalapudi explained about VT Seva Cary’s ‘Research’ competition for Earth Day. For this competition, each participating volunteer was asked to choose a topic and research a specific question about the chosen topic. Manasvini Gudibandi then talked about the ‘Take Action’ Competition for Earth Day. For this competition, each participating volunteer was asked to choose a topic and take action on a question about that topic. After that, Siddharth Malireddy gave a violin performance as this month’s spotlight. He performed the national anthems of the United States and India. Following the violin performance, one of our core volunteers at VT Seva Cary and long time follower of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, Aravind Swamy, shared his experience on volunteering with VT Seva, and how volunteering helps many in need. Next, there was a discussion about communication and social media and how to utilize the platforms to share our activities, spread the word and inspire others about volunteering. Later volunteers were informed about the upcoming summer camp and how they can participate in the camp. Finally, volunteers concluded the session with a game of Kahoot and Mafia. Overall it was a very informative session where volunteers learned about the current and upcoming activities of VT Seva and were inspired by the spotlight and speaker series.

Adopt a Creek

For one of VT Seva Bay Area’s Environmental Services events, we had our first creek cleanup! Youth volunteers went along the sides of a local milpitas creek and picked up garbage, waste, along with much more! This kept out ducks, turtles, and fish safe!

Toy Drive

VT Seva Cary in collaboration with Carolina For The Kids successfully completed a Toy Drive. This drive was initiated by our youth volunteer Sowandarya Chivukula. She was assisted by Ishani Dasyam, Manasvi Gudibandi, Lasya Tula, Yashika Suraneni & Anish Yarlagadda. The drive ran for two weeks. Volunteers collected new toys from the homes of donors. All the toys that were collected through this drive were dropped off at UNC Children's hospital on April 9th, 2021. They will be going to the pediatric patients at the hospital. VT Seva Cary would like to thank all the donors and parents for their time & support!! Kudos to all the volunteers who participated in the toy drive!!
