COVID-19 Webinar

On March 27th, 2021, VT Seva Atlanta hosted a COVID-19 Awareness Webinar, in which Associate Professor Dr. Hans Ghayee and Cardiologist Dr. Jawahar Gazzala presented updates on the current COVID situation, variants of the virus, treatment and recovery processes, necessary travel/work precautions, and the COVID vaccines. Dr. Ghayee is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida, and works in the division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, while Dr. Gazzala is a cardiologist at Atlanta Heart Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia. With over 30 people attending, the event was well received by the attendees, as it was “informative, straightforward, and easily comprehensible.”

VT Seva Boston Virtual Public Speaking Contest 2021

K-12 Students participated in the Virtual Public Speaking Contest. Based on their grade, the students spoke about how their lives have changed because of the pandemic, an influential historical figure they want to spend one day as, their thoughts on the Black Lives Matter Movement, or another major events in the past year. The participants got the opportunity to research, practice their public speaking, and share their thoughts.

Human Services - Letters to Seniors

VT Seva Bay Area had its monthly Letters to Seniors activity. Volunteers each wrote friendly, engaging, and positive letters to keep a senior engaged! Another great achievement this month, a grand total of 100 letters were mailed this month!

Health Services - Webinar 2

VT Seva Bay Area had its bi-monthly Health Services Webinar in March, for the second one, volunteers learned the importance of organ donation. Our volunteers had an informative session and q&a with Doctor Vineeta Kumar, MD, learning different facts about our organs!

The VT Seva Houston team presented a Webinar on Gardening on March 21,2021 covering topics such as indoor and outdoor gardening and concepts such as composting. VT Seva Detroit Clothes Drive

The VT Seva Detroit Youth Board helped many foster kids by donating their gently used clothes to the Downriver Foster Closet. This simple gesture brightens the lives of many kids. The Downriver Foster Closet has been helping Downriver Foster Families since 2020. Their mission is to help foster kids rebuild their self-esteem and adapt to their new homes. This project was initiated and led by Youth Board member Harish. 35 Youth Board members participated and donated 320 clothes.

Bollywood Dance Fitness

The Bombay Jam Event. This was a Bollywood dance fitness event conducted by the North Jersey VT Seva team. It was run by Instructor Harini Potluri. We also had a celebrity guest, Bigg Boss Sohel. Through this fundraiser, we raised around $1000 dollars to help the visually challenged kids in India.

VT Seva Detroit - Education and Career Exploration Series

The first meeting for ‘Education and career exploration’ series was conducted on March 20th at 6:00 pm. This event is mainly for the youth to get exposure to different avenues of growth and development in high school and college. The first guest speaker was Vineet Jammalamadaka who is a high achieving student and an ambitious young software professional. He covered different topics like choosing a major, selecting course work, time management and general life tips. His talk was really inspiring and informative not only to the youth who attended the event and also to the parents who were able to attend the event. The youth and some of the parents made great use of the opportunity by asking questions like the necessity of having extracurricular activities, questions on choosing the right course work etc. Over all it was successful event and the goal to motivate the youth was achieved!

VT Seva Detroit Grocery Bag Drive

VT Seva Detroit youth has successfully completed their project to convert trash to treasure. 35 members collected 3469 plastic grocery bags and donated them to 2 different groups 1. Foodbank in Canton called Open Door Ministry, use these bags to distribute foods 2. Group of volunteers who make mats for the homeless from the plastic bags. Both groups were thankful for receiving those bags. Youth Board member Risha initiated this project.

Environmental Services Group Street Cleanup

In the month of March, VT Seva Bay Area’s Environmental Services had its first group street cleanup! A maximum of 6 youth volunteers had the opportunity to safely meet at a park and clean it up. The volunteers kept our parks and playgrounds clean for kids to play!

For VT Seva Bay Area’s March Environmental Services event, youth volunteers had a street cleanup activity. For this activity volunteers would pick up trash, litter, and junk. The hard work from these volunteers keeps our streets clean!

Grow seedlings for a good cause

It was a beautiful spring morning with a perfect weather for outdoor activity. The VT SEVA Youth along with adults participated in an excellent workshop “Grow seedlings for a good cause”. Our in-house gardening expert Sriman Chainulu Chavali Garu provided extensive information about proper seeding procedures, importance of soil conditions, and water methods. In total, youth prepared 265 soil pots with multiple varieties of Indian vegetables! The Youth will now monitor growth of the seedlings for the next 2 weeks. The main Idea is to plant seedlings and grow vegetables in their respective backyards. A plus point is that any surplus seedlings will be shared in the neighborhood raising environmental awareness and a good cause.

COVID 19 Vaccination Drive by SLIM & VT Seva Houston

The medical team of SLIM Healthcare Associates in association with volunteers from VT Seva Houston held a COVID-19 vaccination event on March 13, 2021 in Sugar Land, TX. The event was conducted with strict COVID precautions and was a drive-through type event. The medical team included medical doctors, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. While the medical team was preparing the doses and administering vaccines, volunteers of VT Seva were handling traffic flow, check-in and assisting with post-vaccination observation under the supervision of a medical doctor with emergency medical services backup. The VT Seva team was also involved in the logistics and planning phase of the event, and the youth again demonstrated tremendous energy in service. The drive was held between 7 AM and 2 PM and almost 200 people received vaccinations. Individuals who received the vaccines expressed their heartfelt gratitude and commented on the excellent setup and execution of the event. Volunteers from Fairmont Hospice, Momentum Skilled Nursing, Park Manor Quail Valley Skilled Nursing, Gentle Hands Personal Care Home, Vantage Hospice, Transition Home Health, Texas Critical Care EMS, and Healthquest EMS graciously gave of their time and were present to assist throughout the entire event.

Womens Sports Day in Sugarland - International Womens Day

Women are strong pillars for their families and their good health brings stability to the family and community at large. On March 7, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, members of the local Houston community safely conducted a Women’s throwball match for a good cause. Score was kept by two youth, Veeraj and Vishu. Vishu, a bright young man who, despite a debilitating diagnosis of Frederich’s ataxia, was there to participate and cheer the teams on. The funds raised, totaling approximately $1000, will be donated to VT Seva and specifically towards VT Seva cancer screening kits for women. Thanking this dynamic group for their generous contribution!
