VTS Detroit YB Manoogian Senior Center Visit

Detroit

July 21, 2025 at 5:00:00 AM

We had our 2nd visit of the summer to Manoogian Manor Senior Center on Monday, July 21! Yet again, the weather did not cooperate with us and it was far too hot to host the bonfire outside. Despite the rough start, we still wanted to make sure we spent our time there entertaining the seniors and making this an evening they won't forget! We started playing games like cornhole, ladder toss, connect 4, and protect the penguin with the seniors, and as time went on, we even moved onto some bowling ๐ŸŽณ. The seniors loved all the games and were so happy to see us again! Overall, this was yet another wonderful evening spent with the seniors, and we can't wait to come back in August! Car Wash Fundraiser a Sunny Success!!!!๐Ÿซง๐Ÿซง๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš— On a very hot, sunny day, a group of 10 enthusiastic kids rolled up their sleeves for a meaningful cause. With buckets, soap, scrubbers, posters and plenty of teamwork, they managed to raise a total of $365 to support one NethraVidyalaya student's education. Their teamwork, energy, and community spirit made a real differenceโ€”and showed how even small efforts can lead to big impact.

Detroit

May 5, 2025 at 5:00:00 AM

In a powerful effort led by five VT SEVA DETROIT youth leaders and 21 youth volunteers, over 260 pairs of sneakers were collected from friends, family, neighbors, and community members over the course of a few weeks. These shoes werenโ€™t just donations, they show the passion behind each of the youth leaders and VT SEVA as a whole. While donating to GotSneakers, this initiative will greatly benefit the environment by reducing the carbon footprint, help underserved get a chance to wear a good pair of shoes and most importantly support VT Seva Feeding Hope (Special Occasions, Annadanam initiative) Program, which provides food to visually challenged and tribal students.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all our donors, volunteers, and well-wishers who generously supported the Liberty Hills, Leander, and Georgetown relief efforts. Your kindness and contributions made a significant impact! A special thank you to Brianna, a dedicated teacher at LISD, for opening her home to collect all the donations. She has been instrumental in sorting supplies for our elementary, middle, and high school students in collaboration with the school district. We also want to acknowledge our wonderful adult volunteer, Komal ji, for her outstanding coordination between the school districts and VTseva. Your efforts have been invaluable! And of course, a huge shout out to Veena ji for her incredible support in organizing the supplies collection. Thank you all once again for your hard work and commitment. Together, we are making a difference!

VT SEVA Maryland Summer Camp 2025

Branch

Maryland

July 31, 2025 at 4:00:00 AM

The VT SEVA Maryland Summer Camp, led by youth leader Mridula Vasudevan in July 2025, has successfully concluded. The camp provided students with valuable academic instruction to prepare them for the upcoming school year, alongside engaging activities such as dancing, singing, yoga, and arts and crafts that fostered creativity, mindfulness, and fun. Where friendships are real, the marker stains are permanent, and every single day was a wild attempt to fit math, English, games, dance, singing, reading, art, and crafts into a few short hours. This group didnโ€™t just attend camp, they took over. If camp were a TV show, these kids were the stars, the directors, and probably the entire writing team. We experienced plot twists, spontaneous musicals, dramatic math meltdowns, and spelling bee rivalries that felt like Olympic events. Some came to learn. Some came to perform. Some came to quietly draw on themselves with permanent markers and somehow walk out looking like abstract art. But every single one brought heart, humor, and something totally unforgettable. Students included: Sowmrita Banerjee Kushi Lokesh Subanya Saravana Bhava Swara Mettu Jayansh Jekka Varuni Vijai Geethansaathvik Thungathurthi Ameya Muddam Riya Mallavarapu Ayaansh Bejgam Surya Muddam Aahana Gupta -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mridula Vasudevan, Camp Leader, shares her experience: Leading this summer camp was a rewarding opportunity to help students grow academically and creatively. Each day brought new challengesโ€”from teaching lessons to organizing activitiesโ€”and allowed me to strengthen my leadership, communication, and organizational skills. As the lead, I coordinated with volunteers, managed the schedule, and served as the main point of contact for students and parents. This experience highlighted the importance of clear communication, flexibility, and teamwork in achieving our shared goals. Iโ€™m deeply grateful to the parents for their support, the students for their enthusiasm, and the volunteers for making each day meaningful. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youth Leadsโ€™ Reflections Akul Pallerla: โ€œThis yearโ€™s summer camp was a wild ride of emotions, excitement, and overall fun. The kids were excellent and even though they were rowdy at times, they were well behaved and respectful. Iโ€™ve enjoyed this year, so I hope that next year will have the same energy!โ€ Arjun Chintalapati: โ€œHi, I am Arjun Chintalapati and it was an amazing three weeks at the VT SEVA camp. It was my first time as a lead and I was able to work with the kids to grow their knowledge on math and English. This experience has taught me to be patient and communicate efficiently.โ€ Taara Vasudevan: โ€œHi, my name is Taara Vasudevan and summer camp to me means that even in the chaos of kids, you can always be happy.โ€ Inika Keranahalli: โ€œThis summer camp was a wonderful opportunity to connect with students and help them explore new ideas. Being part of such a vibrant team taught me the importance of collaboration and adaptability, and Iโ€™m grateful for the chance to contribute to the kidsโ€™ growth.โ€ Anwesha Parida: โ€œWorking at the VT SEVA Summer Camp was an inspiring experience. I enjoyed seeing the childrenโ€™s creativity and curiosity blossom, and it motivated me to keep improving my own leadership skills while supporting their learning journey.โ€ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Acknowledgments Thank you to: The students, for bringing joy, curiosity, and spirit to every activity The parents, for their continued support and trust in our program The youth leads, for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication throughout the camp -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youth Leads โ€“ VT SEVA Maryland Summer Camp 2025 Inika Keranahalli Anwesha Parida Akul Pallerla Arjun Chintalapati Taara Vasudevan Each youth lead contributed meaningfully through lesson planning, student engagement, and daily coordination, gaining valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. Their commitment was essential to the campโ€™s success. I am proud of what we accomplished together and look forward to future opportunities to serve our community through VT SEVA. โ€” Mridula Vasudevan
