High Schooler raises 3500+ dollars for India Covid Relief and empowering visually challenged

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

My name is Nigama and I am going to 10th grade. A month ago, my mom and I were planting seeds in our backyard, like every year around this time, but after seeing the enormity of the struggle India is facing, we decided to start a fundraiser at our home.

After planting our seeds, and growing them for a month, my mom and I took care of the seedlings and eventually arranged them in our garage for sale.

With the large number of orders we received, we reached out to our friends and local farms that provided vegetable/flower saplings. I made a google form to keep track of the orders and started by circulating our message throughout the community, and with an overwhelming response, we decided to open up our fundraiser to many more people to promote and help fundraise for -

1. 3D Science Models for visually challenged kids studying at Nethra Vidyalaya, supported by VT Seva Dallas' Seedlings for Education project

2. Covid relief in India to provide support to the affected families

3. Animal Shelter in Dallas Metroplex

We surpassed our goal by reaching over 260+ orders over the past month! Throughout these several weeks, I have gotten to interact with so many people and spread awareness about VT Seva’s cause, pursue my interest in gardening, and turn our passion into a good objective.

Overall, we successfully reached our aims and raised $3535!

I am so thankful I got to take part in such an enlightening opportunity by serving my community here as well as outreach projects in India.
