  • VT Seva Supporting Kitchen & Toilet construction for Vishwa Hindu Sewa Samithi

VT Seva is a global, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged and visually challenged children. In India, we proudly run numerous schools and colleges, providing free education and holistic care to those in need. Years ago, we embraced a special mission—to support an orphanage in Coimbatore that shelters over 500 orphans. With the unwavering generosity of our friends from Tamil Nadu, we provided the essential support needed for the organization to flourish. This heartfelt initiative sparked a tradition, where each year, we take up a special cause in Tamil Nadu to make a lasting impact. Through the grace of God and the kindness of our supporters, we have achieved remarkable milestones, including: ✅ Rebuilding schools devastated by floods in Cuddalore ✅ Constructing a dedicated facility for mentally and physically challenged individuals near Srirangam ✅ Building over 750 toilets  to uplift underprivileged communities in and around Coimbatore ✅ Supporting organizations in their mission to provide free education to rural children Your unwavering support and generosity fuel our ability to serve and uplift lives. Together, we continue to make a difference—one act of kindness at a time. At VT Seva, we believe in empowering communities by addressing fundamental needs. Today, we seek your support for a vital initiative—renovating the kitchen and constructing new toilets at Vishwa Hindu Sewa Samithi. Kitchen Renovation – Nourishing Millions with Care The current 16x11 ft kitchen, which serves countless meals through the Annapurna project, has suffered extensive damage from rain and natural wear. The presence of snakes and rodents poses serious challenges. To ensure a safe and efficient space for meal preparation, we aim to raise the foundation, expand the kitchen to 22x16 ft, and enhance its structure. The estimated cost is ₹12.5 lakhs . Toilet Construction – A Basic Human Right With numerous activities at the premises, there are only four toilets available for students and visitors, leading to inadequate sanitation facilities. To uphold dignity and hygiene, we plan to build 10 additional toilets , at an estimated cost of ₹6 lakhs . How You Can Make a Difference Your support can transform lives. Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to providing a safe, hygienic, and functional space for those in need. Donations are tax-deductible , and if your employer offers donation matching, your impact is doubled! 100% of your contributions go directly to the cause.  We work tirelessly to uphold your trust and ensure that every rupee is used for meaningful change. Join us in this noble mission—because together, we can make a lasting difference! 🙏 Thank you for your generosity and support!  🙏

  • Reflections of a Transformative Internship Experience at Jeeyar Gurukualm and Nethra Vidyalaya from New Jersey Youth

Sharing Thapati Chintapatla's summer interniship experiences at Jeeyar Guruklam Allampalli and Nethra Vidyalaya in Telangana, India There are some moments in life when you feel like you have been changed forever, and my internship to Allampalli was just that. Nestled in the heart of a tiger reserve forest, Jeeyar Gurukulam Allampalli in Telangana, India is a light that provides education to hundreds of tribal children, enabling them to pursue their dreams. Before going on the internship, I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect, as is the average emotion of an intern before arriving at Allampalli. However, when I stepped down from the bus, I was greeted with a hug from Santharam Swamiji and drum beats from the children who were lined up, hands folded and faces shining. My nervousness disappeared, instead replaced with excitement and anticipation for the days to come. The first morning, we woke up at 5am for yoga. I watched the students each master a unique yoga pose in wonder and awe. I taught Carnatic music and violin to the students, and was unsure of how they would grasp the concepts as both are very nuanced and difficult art forms. We started with the basics and in a flash, the kids were singing in tune with each other! They keenly listened to every correction I gave them, even skipping the break to continue learning! From this, I myself learned how much I am taking advantage of my gurus and the numerous resources I have at my disposal. After lunch, more students came flooding into the library where I was holding classes, hearing from their friends how fun it was and came in eager to sing! When I taught Carnatic violin, students asked to stay back after school and even gave up parts of their study time to come and learn. Although the other students were playing cricket and volleyball outside during the break, these dedicated learners stayed inside on the floor of the library, their eyes focused solely on the instrument in front of them. One of the highlights of the internship was visiting the Thandas, or the villages surrounding Allampalli. We sat in the newly inaugurated temple of one of the villages, and chanted the Hanuman chalisa. As we chanted, students flooded into the temple in their traditional attire and sat down, devotion filling their eyes. During the evening Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam, the same devotion was evident and the children were so eager to come up to the front and chant in the mic. The level of passion, devotion, and dedication that these students have is unmatched, and there is an ocean of qualities that we can learn from them. But something stumped me. How were they so happy? They didn’t have even the slightest of luxuries that we enjoy. It was then that I realized true happiness doesn’t come from luxury, but from a heart full of gratitude, a mind eager to learn, and the courage to embrace every opportunity with purpose and passion. One student, Shashi Vardhan (10th class), said he wanted to be an RMO. Another student, Lavanya (9th class), said she wants to be an IPS officer. Yet another 4th class girl said she wanted to be an IAS officer. The dreams that these students have, IPS, IAS, doctor, teacher, are all unique to their own talents and aspirations, reflect their determination to rise above their circumstances and make a meaningful impact on the world. Soon, the children of Allampalli became my friends. We would gather on the ground after school and play volleyball, or sit on the steps of the terrace and tell stories. We shared inside jokes, nicknames, selfies, and drawings. We braided each other’s hair, and I even taught the 10th class some math tricks! When we were running through the rain to get to the hostel, I then realized the true happiness that these children experience every day. For me, the main highlight of the internship was when we celebrated my birthday in Allampalli. When Santharam Swamiji announced that it was my (nakshatra) birthday, the whole school sang happy birthday and clapped. The overwhelming feeling of gratitude and happiness I experienced throughout that day, handing chocolates to the kids and hearing the occasional “happy birthday sister!” in the hallways, is one that I will never forget. On the last day of our visit in Allampalli, there was a farewell event held for the interns. In this event, the students sang “Narayanathe Namo Namo,” the krithi that I taught them over the past 4 days. The overwhelming joy that I felt hearing them sing with passion was a feeling that I had never felt before. This was that moment where my outlook on life changed completely. I realized the true power behind what we have, which is an education. If, in the middle of a tiger reserve, these children were able to do so much, then what can we truly do as students of top high schools in the United States? I saw similar things in Nethra Vidyalaya, the school for the blind, where we were warmly welcomed. A couple of students sang some songs for us, and one even qualified for Padutha Theeyaga! They never let their inhibitions stop them from reaching the stars. Seeing the amazing accomplishments and strides that these talented learners are making made me more and more inspired to do the same. In the last few days, we were given the amazing opportunity to volunteer at the JIMS Ayurvedic Hospital. Observing the difference in medical treatment and care given in such an environment was astounding, especially listening to how attentive and compassionate the doctors were with each patient. I was able to shadow an OB/GYN for a few hours and learned so much more about how not to just treat the disease, but to be able to treat the patient as a whole. As someone aspiring to enter the medical field, this component of the experience was eye-opening and truly changed my perspective. We concluded the internship with receiving certificates from Swamiji, and blessings. I owe my utmost gratitude to Swamiji for instituting the tribal schools and the internship, so more and more students like me can see the struggles of students our age in other parts of the world. There are many words I can use to describe my experience, but one in particular stood out to me: transformative. This internship has been life-changing and taught me the value of the life that we live right now. From the early morning yoga to the evening parayanams, the students of Allampalli and Nethra Vidyalaya taught me that true fulfillment lies not in what we have, but in how we embrace life’s opportunities with purpose, passion, and a heart eager to learn.  There are many words I can use to describe my experience, but one in particular stood out to me: transformative. • Dance for a Cause 2024 - First Dance Fitness Event

First Dance Fitness Event from VT Seva Detroit along with Happy Feet Dance Academy A Celebration of Movement, Fitness, and Community   On Saturday, September 21, 2024, VT Seva Detroit  hosted its very first Dance Fitness  event—a groundbreaking initiative that blended fun, fitness, and philanthropy in a unique and impactful way in partnership with Ms. Arpitha Chakkudige of hAppy Feet Dance Academy  . This wasn’t just any event; it was a celebration of movement and a demonstration of how our community can come together to support a greater cause. Ms. Arpitha being one of the most popular dance choreographers in Metro Detroit, created an experience that was both exhilarating and meaningful. The Dance Fitness event was designed to promote physical fitness through engaging dance routines. But beyond just promoting a healthy lifestyle, every step taken during the session was for a noble cause. Each dollar raised from this high-energy event directly supported over seven visually challenged students at Nethra Vidyalaya , an institution dedicated to empowering visually impaired students through education, skills and talent development.   The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 60 individuals  from diverse backgrounds. From beginners to seasoned dancers, everyone came together on the dance floor, united by the common goal of supporting a worthy cause. The energy was profound as participants followed the dynamic choreography led by Ms. Arpitha, whose passion and expertise ensured that everyone stayed motivated and enjoyed every moment non-stop for an hour and half.  We truly thank and immense gratitude to Ms. Arpitha and Mr. Nishanth from Happy Feet Dance Academy for coming forward to help the amazing cause and many thanks to Arpitha for conducting such an electrifying Dance Fitness event Events like these wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors. We were fortunate to have the backing of three generous sponsors— Zen Body & Skin Spa, Ms. Hima and VTSeva Detroit anonymous member —whose contributions helped make this event a success. Their support not only covered the logistical needs of the event but also enabled us to maximize the funds raised for Nethra Vidyalaya. To help market and promote this event, these youth volunteers Khushi, Sai, Advithi, Kaustubh, Siddhani, Shreya, Cordelia, Shraya, Swara, Avni, Shruti, Hiba, Sahasra and Rohan came forward effectively and raised funds to help this event.   Some of these youth set minimum goals and worked really great to achieve it.  We also appreciate who did try to market & promote the event as well. Thank you to all our wonderful team members & volunteers who made this event possible. Together, we have danced, sweated, and celebrated for a cause that truly matters. Nishanth, Prasanna, Suresh R, Sudheer K, Srinath K, Durga N, Priya J, Neha V, Jaishankar, Nandini C, Sreenivas C, Praveen K, and Vanitha G If you missed out on this event, here are the pictures and many video snippets of the session and we are sure you would consider joining us in the next year’s Dance Fitness event looking at the fun we all had. Our goal is to create more opportunities for people to come together, have fun, and make a difference. All the proceeds raised will directly contribute to the education and development of visually challenged students at Nethra Vidyalaya. These students, who face unique challenges, are given the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that fosters their potential. Our support helps provide them with the resources they need to thrive, empowering them to lead independent and fulfilling lives.   We are already looking forward to our next event, and we invite everyone to join us as we continue to innovate, inspire, and make a positive impact!! • VT Seva Detroit's Inaugural Basketball Tournament

On August 10, 2024, VT Seva Detroit hosted its first-ever Basketball Tournament, bringing the community together for an exciting day of sportsmanship and competition. The event was inspired by a spark of an idea from one of our dedicated Youth Volunteers, Tejas, which led to a thorough exploration of the possibility of organizing such a tournament. To gauge interest, we circulated a survey within the VT Seva WhatsApp groups, and the encouraging responses gave us the confidence to move forward. We opened registrations for two age categories: 10 to 13 years , and 14 years and above. The response was overwhelming, with two teams forming in the first category and 30 participants organizing into 10 teams in the second. • Bake sale hosted by Avni and Shraya with the help of their community for Feeding Hope program

Hunger remains one of the most common challenges facing our world today, impacting millions of lives daily. Stepping up and supporting this cause can create a huge impact on countries and the people in our world.  Our Story for Feeding Hope: We, Shraya Ved and Avni Patel, are youth volunteers at VTSEVA Detroit Youth Board. The "Feeding Hope" Program  at VT Seva provides the children of Nethra Vidyalaya schools, colleges, and tribal schools with nourishment and special meals sponsored by generous people.  This is a great initiative to provide the students of Nethra Vidyalaya with healthy meals . We are dedicated to contributing to this noble cause and helping the world in our own little way, so we started our initiative to do a bake sale, on July 13th 2024, in our subdivision and raise funds. Goal:   We started off by setting a goal of $400s, to be able to provide a minimum of 3 meals each for 3 days . Reach:  We spread the word of the bake sale through  friends, family, different neighborhoods  in Canton (that is where the bake sale was), Social Media  posts etc and also did some door to door sales at the end of the event.  Process:  At our home, we baked goodies like chocolate chip muffins, blueberry muffins, brownies, cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies and made fresh lemonade. On July 13th in our subdivision, with the help of our parents we set up a tent and arranged the items to be sold. We spent 5hrs from 1pm till 6pm  doing the sales. It was fun interacting with the customers and giving them insight into this wonderful Feeding Hope Program. Accomplishment:  With all the sales and donations,   we were able to raise $916  from this bake sale and far exceeded our expectations, allowing us to provide meals for 7 days  for the underprivileged and visually challenged children at the Nethra Vidyalaya school in India.  For more pictures, Please click here https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOm2t8WRY14PRhcTV-1b9MHbv7Pe06PgIoB5rHec3D_t6D7JAwJ26f9G4wAB5yTWQ?key=bWpLVHluTjBmd1d3MWYwaDZJT0pfdUd3ZGNZX0Z3 Avni’s Reflections: Me and Shraya Ved had a bake sale to help raise money for the VT Seva Feeding Hope program . Selling these products we earned around $916.00 during our event. This was an amazing and inspiring experience. It let me see the reality of our society and let me get the experience to be a part of helping the people in it. This is an incredible opportunity and the more people that we take part in it the more we can help out our world! A world without hunger can impact our economics, health, education, and development as a society all in positive ways. Stepping up and supporting this cause can create a huge impact on countries and the people in our world. Shraya’s  Reflections: This being our first bake sale, we had a few trial and errors while baking.  The bake sale has been a very humbling and rich learning experience for both Avni and me. We have learned to plan, organize and execute an event. Of course, we made some errors and will make sure that we do not repeat it in our next event but the learning experience has been very valuable. Right from planning how much and how many varieties of baked goods to thinking of presentation and selling the goods, along with wrapping up the event with counting and calculating what we collected has been such an awesome experience. This hands-on experience will help us to transfer the skills we learned to different projects and activities we undertake later. We urge all youth to engage in activities to collect for this noble cause. We want all to know that this is an amazing opportunity that we are privileged to receive that allows us to make a difference, in whatever small way we can. There is no minimum amount that we need to raise, but we as a team did have a goal in mind. The guidance that we received from the VT Seva team members is also extremely valuable and we are so thankful for all the help. So, please consider participating in this cause and let us try and raise money so that no child goes to sleep hungry.
