VT Seva Boston Public Speaking Contest Rules

1. Latecomers will not be permitted to compete in the competition.

2. Registration fees are non-refundable and are 100% tax-deductible. It is seen as a donation to VT Seva.

3. Parental interruption in any form during the contest is always prohibited.

4. No photography, videography, or audio recording is permitted during the competition.

5. VT Seva reserves the right to record any part of the competition and publish it on the VT Seva website and other VT Seva social media platforms.

6. The judge’s decision is final.

7. Judges have the right to change the rules of the competition; any changes to the rules will be announced before the competition begins.

8. If the contest cannot take place on the designated date due to any unforeseen/uncontrollable circumstances VT Seva will attempt to reschedule the competition.

9. In the unlikely case that VT Seva is unable to reschedule the event or cancel the event due to unforeseen/uncontrollable circumstances VT Seva will provide a full refund to the registered participant.

10. The primary goal of this contest is to foster the spirit of competition and leadership skills among today’s youth. Parents and children should focus on the joy of learning and interaction with other participants.


Competition Rubrics:

Rubric - Vocal Representation, Speech Content, Time Management, Body Language, Organization of Ideas


Categories and Topic (3 mins speech time)


Category I: Kindergarten to 2nd grade

Topic: The best day of my life


Category II: 3rd to 5th grade

Topic: If I could make one new gadget, what would it be?


Category III: 6th to 9th grade

Topic: Why kindness matters?


Category IV: 9th to 12th grade

Topic: Extempore model; topic will be given at site – 5mins prep time
